Unit 4 Taking Risk

For this lesson we studied a little bit of phrasal verbs, how used it? And your meanings.
For example:
·         Run out: Use all of something so there is none left.
·         Pass out: Give to each person.
·         Put out: Stop fire.
·         Sort it out: Put something in order, correct a mistake.
·         Backed out: Change your mind.
Like an extra activity for this unit we had to create a panel of experts and discuss a specific topic. According to the title of the unit, my group decided talk about the FIFA World Cup and risks of it.
I prepared a paragraph about Costa Rica and risks they took to do history.
“Old people in Costa Rica only speak about Italy 90, but now new generations think and discuss only about Brazil 2014, because last Sunday the ticos got pass to quarterfinals in this tournament. Now the ticos will play against Netherlands, one of the favorites teams to win the trophy but, what say they about it?
The coach Jorge Luis Pinto say:
-I don't fear, Netherlands is a great team and has players like Arjen Robben, Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Dirk Kuyt, they play for big clubs in Europe, but we have many strategies and techniques to stop their work.
About Robben, Pinto thinks that your team need to do something similar to what they did when they played against Italy.
Keylor Navas goalkeeper of Costa Rica, showed very excited for complete the objective against Greece and Yeltsin Tejeda midfielder gave a special message for Costa Rica, he said: Let’s go for more, this group will write a new history.

Unit 3 Lessons from History

The unit 4 for me was very interesting because it was about history around the world, for example one day we talked about Troy, the real history and obviously about the movie.
That topic helped me to understand vocabulary like: elderly, throughout and ancient.
Also we learned important things or rules about the different past forms. For example:
·         I wrote one blog yesterday, because I needed to pass the English course. This sentence is one example of use of simple past, use it, to talk about completed actions in the past.
·         Past continuous is used to talk about actions in progress at a particular time in the past. Example: I was watching TV when my mom called me.
·         To talk about actions which continued up to the past moment being talked about use past perfect continuous.
Form: Had + been + present participle
·         The form of past perfect is: had + present participle. It is used to talk about completed actions that happened before another action in the past.
·         I had just finished my exam when the teacher called me.

When we saw the page number 35, we discussed about the appearance of some things with the only objective to learn and use vocabulary like: leather (used to make shoes), wool (produced by goat), silk (used in expensive clothes), porcelain (used to make some trimmings to the house) and wood (trees).

At the end we discuss one topic related with the most important invention in the world, we had to choose between paper, the wheel, the television, the telephone, internet, car, gunpowder and the light bulb, and give some reasons that why it was the best invention for you?
My opinion was:

"I think the car is the most important invention, because with it is more easily arrive in different places. One disadvantage of it is the pollution that it produces and obviously if people don't use in the right way maybe it can hurt some people, it can cause accidents."

Unit 2 Making a Living

In this unit we talked about some professions and characteristics that you need for this specific profession. In my case I’m studying to be a Computer engineer and for this reason I will write some things related my career.

To be a Computer Engineer you need to know how to program in different program languages, Java, pascal, C++, Python are examples of these languages. Nowadays I’m learning Java at the University. But why I chose this career? Simple when I was in my old high school I got courses about it, I learned how repair computers, it was amazing one day I didn't know nothing about computers and the other day I was practicing new techniques to fix computers.

Some important characteristics that you need for this profession are:
·         Stay calm under the pressure, why? Sometimes, you need to solve difficult situations in your work and if you keep calm you can find the best solution to resolve the problem.
·         Have an eye for detail: When develop a new code, you need to be concentrated in that code, because with only one letter or word in the incorrect place the program doesn't work.
·         Be a good listener: you need to establish an excellent relation with your clients for give him a good service, avoid problems and develop a quality system that contain the necessaries to her business.
·         Be a good team player: Always you work with people in this area, and the need to interchange ideas with your coworkers is unavoidable.

Unit 1 Making Connections

This was my first class of English course. This time I learned the meaning of some words like: acquaintance, jealous and juggle. The first activity was a simple discussion about some pictures that describe different kinds of relations that people have. We needed to use phrases like: "feel on the same wavelength", "have a lot in common", "see eye to eye" and "just clicked". At the same time we discussed the meaning of these phrases. Also we had opportunity to refresh our knowledge related with the use of the pronoun any/every/no/some. Only to make a little resume about this: any and every, can both used to talk in general about all the members of a group. Use any for amounts in negative sentence.
Later I could see different rules to use tags questions in the correct way, some rules are:
·         The tag question for I am, is aren’t I.
·         After nothing as a subject, use it.
·         After negative words use a positive tag questions.

Other topic that we saw during the class were the Modals of Speculation, I learned how to use this, because before that day I didn't know how this are used. Now I know that I can use must to express a certain believe, or when something it's not possible I need to use cant, these are only some rules.
At the end we expressed different opinions of topics related with the children and her parents, the objective of this activity was the use of phrases like: "That's probably true" or "I couldn't agree more" to express agreement.
To express disagreement we use phrases like: "I totally disagree", "I'm not sure if i agree with that"
